Fitness Motivation over 40

If you are looking for fitness motivation look no further!  After turning 40 Julie was overweight and not feeling herself.  Instead of making excuses she decided to take action and get her bod back in shape!  Meet Julie…

 1. What is your name and age?

Julie Shea, Age 46

2. What inspired you to get fit?

I was always in good physical shape and after I turned 40, I lost sight of my fitness goals and gained weight.  About 1.5 years ago, after gaining 40 lbs, I woke up one day and decided to make the changes and get back in shape.    I wanted to feel and look the way I always had.

3. What keeps you motivated to live the healthy life?

I am motivated every single day with the small improvements……as the days, weeks and months passed on this journey I was feeling awesome.  My confidence returned.   I would look in the mirror and loved what I saw.  I was no longer hiding behind the camera and now I’m happy to be in front of the camera.  Most of all,  I can slip into a pair of jeans without needing to be a gymnast :)….every woman loves that.

4. What time of the day do you workout and why?

I work out in the morning before breakfast. Thats when I have the most energy…Just get it done!

5. How do you balance life, work, training and family?

You need to make the things that are important to you a priority.  There is time to do everything you want to do.  Just don’t make excuses that you can’t. You can…..and after all, when you feel good you have more energy to do it all!

6. What do you for fun?

I love to run road races…I’m pretty competitive…I also enjoy hiking, running, and yoga.  I’ll throw in the occasional Tough Mudder or ultra long distance challenge as well to challenge myself mentally and physically.   I enjoy simply hanging out with family and friends and having some laughs.

7. What do you think is the biggest misconception about women in fitness?

That if a women lifts weights, they will look like the hulk. Not so.  There is  nothing more sexy than a fit woman with muscle definition.

8. What is your favorite body part to exercise?

My back.  I love the definition you can achieve with the individual muscles on your back…

9. If you had to pick three key exercises – what would they be and why?

  • Chin ups
  • Squats
  • Chest press

You can hit nearly every part of your body with these three exercises.

10. What are the three things you always have in your gym bag?

Bottle of water, towel and hair scrunchie

11. What is your favorite cheat “treat”?

By far a peanut butter ice cream hot fudge sunday…extra hot fudge

 12. Anything else you would like us to know?

I hope to motivate other women in my age group.  You can take charge and get in shape!  Just decide you want it bad enough.
